Summary of comments of this office by Dom Schuster, in his work L'année liturgique.
The Introït is taken from Psalm 85: "Bow down Thy ear, O Lord, to me and hear me: Save Thy servant, O my God, that trusteth in Thee..."
The psalm of the Gradual is the 91st, which is the same as for the Saturday of the second week of Lent: "It is good to give praise to the Lord; and to sing to Thy name, O Most High. To show forth Thy mercy in the morning, and Thy trust in the night."
The Alleluia versicle is borrowed from Psalm 94, and seems to continue that of the preceding Sunday: "For the Lord is a great God, and a great King over all the earth."
The versicle for the Offertory is taken from Psalm 39, and is the same as that of the Tuesday after the Fourth Sunday of Lent: "With expectation I have waited for the Lord, and He had regard to me; and He heard my prayer, and He put a new canticle into my mouth, a song to our God."
The antiphon for the Communion, like the one prescribed for the Ninth Sunday after Pentecost, is taken from the Gospel of St. John (6:52), and is used here as an exception to the rule. It is the same as the one for the Thursday after the First Sunday of Lent, and expresses concisely the double character of sacrifice and sacrament which belong to the holy Eucharist. "The bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world."
