14th Sunday after Pentecost PDF Print E-mail

Summary of comments of this office by Dom Schuster, in his work L'année liturgique.

The Introït is taken from Psalm 83: "Behold, O God, our protector, and look on the face of thy Christ..."

The Gradual which follows the reading is the same as for the Friday of the fourth week of Lent, and it is taken from Psalm 117: "It is good to confide in the Lord, rather than to have confidence in man. It is good to trust in the Lord, rather than to trust in princes."

The versicle of the Alleluia is taken from Psalm 94: "Come, let us praise the Lord with joy; let us joyfully sing to God our Saviour."

The antiphon for the Offertory is taken from the alphabetical Psalm 33, and it is the same as for the Thursday after the First Sunday of Lent. "The angel of the Lord shall encamp round about them that fear Him, and shall deliver them: O taste and see that the Lord is sweet!"

The antiphon for the Communion is taken from the Gospel reading of the day. Seek first the interior kingdom of God in the soul by means of the integral practice of the virtues proper to your state in life. That is why virtue here is called justice.
