Schola Bellarmina was created in 1998 in Brussels by Father Bernard Lorber, who intended to implement the totality of the Gregorian chant repertory. Such a total operation being first meant to be didactic, accuracy of interpretation was stressed upon, hence the selection of a limited number of choristers, as specialized in the Gregorian chant, this number varying from three to five. From 1998 to 2001, Schola Bellarmina carried out all the recordings of
the Temporal – the Masses on the Sundays and the main feasts of the
liturgical cycle – that is a total of 14 disks. As from 2002, Schola Bellarmina changed altogether. For the recording of the Kyriale and Credo (3 CDs), Father Lorber enlisted young men who had been formed in a school – l’Etoile du Matin (the Morning Star) – in which the Gregorian chant is practised since college. After being appointed as musical director at St-Nicolas du Chardonnet, a Paris church, Father Lorber enlisted two excellent Gregorian singers in order to initiate the Sanctoral. At the moment, the first volume of two disks has been published; it contains the Masses of the Feasts from December 8 (Immaculate Conception) to July 1 (Precious Blood). In 2007, the published repertory includes 19 disks. |
