Volume 10 of the Liturgical year in gregorian chant collection is now available. It complements the Sanctoral and includes the masses of saints for the months of august to november : aug. 6, aug. 15 & 22 - sept. 3 (saint Pius X) - sept 14 (Exaltation of the Holly Cross) - sept. 15 (Our Lady of Seven Sorrows) - sept. 29 (Saint Michael Archangel) - oct. 7 (Rosary) - Feast of Christ the King - All Saints.
This volume includes two records of 77 and 78 minutes each.
The Passion Chant is one of the oldest elements of the Holy Week liturgy. The threefold structure of the Passion gives this narration a vibrant and poignant caracter. While the narrator sings the text on a relatively simple melody to avoid raising too much attention, the low voice of Christ puts stress on the dramatic caracter of the Passion ; on the other hand, the Synagogue, with its high-pitched tessiture brings forth the violence of Christ ennemies.
Ce discours a été tenu en décembre 2005 par Mgr Valentino MISERACHS GRAU, président de l'Institut Pontifical de Musique Sacrée. Même si la messe dont il parle – celle de Paul VI – n'est pas le biothope d'origine du chant grégorien, il n'en reste pas moins que sa pensée sur la place du chant grégorien dans la liturgie catholique est vigoureuse et juste. Il enracine la musique sacrée dans son passé, se référant aux documents en la matière publiés par saint Pie X et par Pie XII. Un discours remarquable.
